What type of music do you play? Our music consists mainly of folk tunes from the British Isles, USA and Canada. The style is upbeat folk-rock with irish, bluegrass and cajun influences, together with a selection of folk/oldtime songs played in a similar style. The dances are traditional barndance/hoedown/ceilidh and include standards (such as Ninepins, Stripping the Willow etc.) and waltzes. Our favourite artists are Fairport Convention, Martin Simpson, Eliza Carthy, Michael McGoldrick, Aly Bain, Seth Lakeman, Lau etc.
Do you have a caller? Yes we have a caller (Karl!).
Are barndances suitable for beginners? Yes, definitely, we specialise in beginners barndances, the emphasis at all our dances is is on having fun (not on learning fancy dance steps)!
How long do you play for? We normally play for up to two and a half hours in all. A typical evening dance starts at 8.30pm. with dancing for half to three quarters of an hour. There is usually then a break for a meal and perhaps a raffle. Once this is over the band then plays for the rest of the evening until about 11.30pm. This is intended to give an idea of a typical barndance (but of course we can work to your particular requirements!).
How much does it cost to hire the band? The price depends on the location, and level of convenience (its cheaper closer to Northwich and for Saturday nights). We normally require a £50 deposit to make a firm booking.
